MUMBAI (Special Correspondent): A sensational case of organized harassment and assault has surfaced in Mumbai’s Andheri area, leading to the registration of an FIR against seven individuals. The incident, which allegedly spanned from March 23, 2026, to April 5, 2026, has sparked widespread outrage and raised serious concerns regarding women’s safety in the locality.
According to the police complaint, the victim was targeted while engaged in her routine daily activities. The accused—identified as Bindu Sharma, Neelam Gupta, Satyaprakash Dubey, Munna alias Sonar, Leena Kapoor, Sujata Vishwas, and one unidentified individual—allegedly acted in a coordinated manner to forcibly restrain, misbehave with, and physically assault her. The victim stated that the group committed obscene acts against her will, subjecting her to severe humiliation and threatening her with dire consequences.
Legal Action Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)
Recognizing the gravity of the allegations, the Andheri police have invoked several stringent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023:
- Section 74: Outraging the modesty of a woman.
- Section 79: Sexual harassment.
- Section 115(2): Voluntarily causing hurt.
- Section 351(2) & 352: Criminal intimidation and use of criminal force.
- Section 3(2): Offenses committed with common intention (Group offense).
Priest’s Involvement Sparks Social Outcry
A major point of contention in the case is the involvement of Satyaprakash Dubey, who serves as a priest at a prominent Hanuman Temple in Andheri. The news of a religious figure being involved in such an offense has led to a sharp reaction from the community. Various women’s organizations under the ‘Nari Shakti’ banner have resolved to approach the Charity Commissioner through temple trustees, demanding Dubey’s immediate removal from his position to preserve the sanctity of the temple.
Allegations of Extortion and Police Omission
The victim has further alleged a significant omission in the current FIR. She claims that the accused forcibly snatched her mobile phone and extorted ₹15,000 from her for its return. Despite paying the amount under duress, this detail was reportedly missing from the initial police record. The victim is now preparing to approach senior police officials to ensure that the charges of extortion are added and that a completely impartial investigation is conducted.
The police have initiated a formal probe and are currently investigating the “organized” nature of the crime. Residents and social activists are calling for swift justice and the highest possible legal action against all those involved.
